The District is a screenplay for a period-piece mystery set in New Orleans’ 1920s Storyville. Our hero, a policeman named Foster, is tricked by a Voodoo sorceress into believing that he assassinated the President. He flees to Storyville and shacks up in a brothel to escape capture. There, he eventually becomes the neighborhood’s de facto sheriff and vigilante. When he discovers the sorceress’s trick, he struggles to balance his desire to take revenge against his own growing loyalty to the women of Storyville, of whom the sorceress is one. Think lots of sex, opium, booze, jazz, and black magic.
